Getting Published with the Help of your Medical Librarian
Dr. Schofer gives good reasons to build a relationship with your friendly, neighborhood librarian…
you can contact your medical library, usually via e-mail, and get them to do literature searches for you. Usually they’ll just e-mail you PDF copies of the articles they find.
If you have a research project you are thinking about doing, e-mail them and ask them to do a literature search for you and pull all related research that has been published. They’ll do it for you.
Almost all medical schools and teaching hospitals have medical editors available to assist you as well. If you feel that your grammar is poor or you do not write well enough to get published, all you have to do is send your best effort to a medical editor prior to submitting it. They will smooth your manuscript and get rid of most problems prior to submission. The same goes for poster presentations and even, in some cases, PowerPoint/Keynote presentations. You never know until you ask.
